This painting represents many things, but it is a representation of me, of you, of any person in general, with their lights and shadows, with their smiles and their tears, with their good days and their bad days, with dreams and illusions and resounding failures.
Sometimes I think how simple things really are and how complex we people are at the same time, complicating everything with our way of being at times. At other times we seem to understand that and let ourselves go and stop forcing things and everything flows, as if we drew a curtain and suddenly the sun’s rays filtered through the glass. In other occasions we insist on closing that heavy curtain that does not let anything out and does not allow anything to enter, neither good nor bad, absolute isolation, closing ourselves in with a darkness that floods everything and seems to drown us.
These lights and shadows intertwined and coexisting in harmony represent life in this painting, because it is about this very thing, about lights and shadows, and about how we face them and navigate them both.
